Byers named G-MAC pitcher of week
West Branch High graduate Kelsey Byers, a junior at Malone, has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week.
Byers pitched 26 innings in four weekend games against Tiffin and Findlay, recording 28 strikeouts. She pitched a two-hit shutout against Findlay.
Byers leads NCAA Division II in strikeout-to-walk ratio with 24.5 strikeouts for every walk she has issued. She has 10 wins, eight complete games, three shutouts and 113 strikeouts with a 1.64 earned run average.
Raiders’ track teams ranked
Mount Union’s men’s outdoor track and field team is ranked third and the women’s team is eighth in the national rankings conducted by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Purple Raiders have 14 top 10 marks and times on the season, including junior Tanner Slack, who has the nation’s best high jump of 6 feet, 9 inches.
Senior Lucas Cooper (discus), junior Tyler Gill (200 meters), AJ Digby (400) also have top-five performances among the men, while Sabrina Stocker (100 hurdles), Michaelina Terranova (400 hurdles) and the 4×100 relay of Cortni Arp, Olivia Powers, Micah Donley and Madison Miles are in the top five times nationally.
